Oregon trout stocking schedules, without the opinions.
PNW Trout shows every water the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife
stocks with trout, when each one is scheduled, and how many fish are planned.
Follow a water and the app tells you the week it is due.
Common questions
Why does it say “scheduled” instead of “stocked”?
Because that is what the data is. ODFW publishes the week a water is
scheduled, not the day, and fish are sometimes diverted. The app never claims a
stocking happened — saying so would be inventing certainty the state does not
publish.
Why is there no exact date?
ODFW schedules by week. A truck might come Monday or Friday. Showing a
specific day would be precision that does not exist.
My lake isn’t listed.
The app carries waters ODFW maps with coordinates. Some scheduled rows
describe a stretch of river rather than a named water — “McKenzie R-2, above
Leaburg Dam”, for instance — and those are left out rather than pinned to a
guess. Waters ODFW does not describe accurately enough to place are held back
deliberately.
I didn’t get a notification.
Check that notifications are enabled for PNW Trout in Settings, and that
Background App Refresh is on. iOS decides when apps may run in the background
and does not guarantee it, so opening the app always brings you up to date.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-in, and nothing you do leaves your phone.
Does it work without a signal?
Yes. The last downloaded copy is kept on the device, so the app still works
at a trailhead. It will tell you when it is showing a saved copy.
Where does the data come from, and how current is it?
ODFW’s published trout stocking schedule and stocking maps. It is re-read
twice a week, every Monday and Thursday, and the raw pages are archived each
time so a correction upstream reaches the app without anyone retyping it.
Why are there no reviews or ratings?
By design, and there never will be. Stocking counts, amenities, species and
locations are facts published by the state. Whether a lake is any good is your
call to make.
